Winning -- Jack Welch

I Just finished one more book, "Winning" written by Jack Welch. For those who don't know Jack welch was the CEO of GE from 1981 to 2001, the market capitalization of GE raised from $14 Billion to $410 billion during his tenure. He adopted Six Sigma from Motorola and famous for his Appraisal policy. He suggests corporates to fire the bottom 10% and give more benefits to top 20%. Below are some of the quotes from his book Winning... ==================================================================================== What is mission ? What is Value ? What difference the difference makes ? Mission: What do you call Winning? Values: How you want to Win ? You have a choice, global recession can be treated with either Layoff's or Innovations. Just because you are the boss, doesn't mean you are the source of the knowledge. HIRING Hiring good people is hard, hiring great people is brutally hard. Columbus Confused ...

It was 1492, Columbus was in search of India, which is rich of gold, pearls and spices. He started travelling west till he reaches Asia. After a long journey than expected he reached America and thought it was India. He read in history books that Indians are wheatish in color. But in the place he landed (America) all the people are red in color. So he called them Red Indians. That's history. Lets take a funny / Imaginary story , what happens if Columbus comes to America again. Its 2009, Columbus travelled all the way and reached an Island. This time he don't want to jump on to conclusion like earlier, he docked his ship and started roaming on the roads. He saw people in all colors, he recollected , if the people are in red it must be Native Americans. But he was not able to find a single native American. Though his sixth sense told it was the same America he discovered centuries back, he just want to confirm it. He thought of checking-in a hotel. He went near by "Motel 6...

Horizons

"Change is calling where are you", this is the quote of the time for me. After spending one and half year in Chicago (Central America) and closely one and half year in Hartford (East Coast), now its time to visit Phoenix (West Coast). So the change is asking me to go to west coast of America from first week of Nov. Actually i completed visiting almost all the places in East and Central part of America. I never got a chance to visit the west coast. So lets see whats in store there. In my 25 years stay in India, I went out of state only twice. I haven't travelled more than 500 KM's any time. Now each year I am moving by at least 1500 KM's. Now the distance between the current place and new place is nearly 4000 KM's. Two things I learned in US are travelling and investing time in myself. Lets give a look at the places I visited so far in US 1. New york, New Jersey - two times 2. Niagara 3. St.Louis 4. Chicago - stayed here for one and half year 5. Washington DC -...

I just want discuss some of the typical corporate characters we meet in our day to day corporate life. This classification is broadly based on their work style. Headstrongers: These kind of people show their attitude at work with colleagues. They are egoistic and dominating. They think world is existing just because of them and they are powerful to do anything. Smarties: These kind of people don't really know how to work, but they manage well. They use good English skills to manage things and wrap troubles with vocabulary and make it light. Womanizers: These kind of people just women centric. All their focus is impressing women around. Always trying to prove themselves as hero. Parasites: These kind of people don't have any capability to work. They just depend on different people to complete the task. Can't handle a single task on their own. Boss shoe licks: T...

Best Friend & Worest Enemy

He was the best friend for those who follow him and worest enemy for those who oppose him. When I was reading through the snippets of information about the deceased Andhra CM , YSR Reddy, I realised many things , any person will dream of having. He is adamant, dare to do, fights to any extent for the things he believe right. Think beyond what you think you can do, this line suites Mr. YSR. Some call this out of box thinking, but I call this dare to think. Some people can not come out of their framed mind to think beyond limits and to achieve that. This is true about everyone of us. Some of the innovative schemes he brought are not even thought as possible things. Irrigation project worth 1 Lakh Crores, Health Insurance for poor etc. He is a double edged sword concentrating on innovative schemes and development of people at the same time he is dare to hit opponents under belt. One thing I admire in him is, he never drops the ball , he takes it till the end whatever happens. People might...

Qualities of Stita Prajna - Bhagavd Gita

Image
Since my child hood I was trying to practice only one quality - 'Stita Prajna'. Ofcourse I am not able to conquer yet. I am sure I can do that, before dusk of my life. My mom told me If you can be 'Stita Prajna' you achieve everything in life. I never understood this though. If you dont know what does 'Stita Prajna' means, here is the meaning for you...The hero whose soul is unmoved by circumstance, who accepts pleasure and pain with equanimity. Sri Krishna explained Arjuna in Bhagavd Gita about this quality in Second chapter. Arjun asks, Krishna why should I kill all my Relatives, Guru's, parent like people for just Kingdom. Then Lord Krishna told, The one who Refuse to fight for Righteous cause is also a traitor and incur sin. Then he asks Arjuna to be 'Stita Prajna'. That was the context. How can you become , what you want to be. Its not so easy. Especiall for a person who is moved to extremes quickly. I become happy or sad very quickly. Angry str...
