Software Family

Here is an imaginary idea, what if you compare your family to software trends. Wives are like Data Analytics . Always big on numbers (shopping, remembering dates). Trends are always changing and you can not say to the market that you don't have analytics strategy (wife), competitors will start underestimating you if you do that. You say you have the latest and greatest tools and you don't want anybody to check on your data. Husbands are always like systems . It's not easy to modernize and you can't dump the systems altogether. You will be struggling with endowment effect. You customized systems (husband) a lot and it's not easy to find a replacement serving the same needs/requirements Sons are like AI . It is very difficult to understand and fascinating to have. You don't want them to fully self-autonomous and you can not control intelligence/effects once you let them out. Daughters are like cloud . You have to have cloud strategy for th

Should I consider Hybrid cloud for my company ?

In this article I would like to analyze about Hybrid cloud options for the enterprise. By Hybrid cloud I mean one or more public cloud vendor/s and your own data centers (private or on-prem). We are not talking about multi-cloud scenario where you will be leveraging multiple public cloud vendors. We have several options in market as of today (4/15/2020). Almost every public cloud provider has a hybrid cloud offering. I would like to analyze the merits and de-merits of Hybrid cloud approach. Let's quickly look at possible options. Google Anthos, AWS Outpost, Azure Arc are top 3 public cloud providers offerings. Still you will be running your cloud vendor agents on your data centers, so you are dependent on them. you will still be paying for the virtual CPU usage and software support. Google Anthos support to open source is more convincing solution RedHat Openstack is another open source alternative. Didn't analyze Oracle cloud at customer, IBM RedHat Openshift, VMWa

Funny realizations of Lock down

Here are some personal realizations of COVID19 stay home situation. Don't take it to heart, just for fun. I can do 100 pushups + crunches in a day. Can run for 2.5 miles, not that hard. Reading is NOT hard, all you need is something that you like to read Blogging is NOT that hard, you just need to think about what you want to write. Learning is NOT that hard, all you need is a plan or list of things you want to learn Wife and kid are not that bad, seems like reasonable people Cooking is NOT hard, you just need to step into the kitchen. I have to vacuum multiple times in a week, if we are staying home more :-( Cutting hair is tough job, you can't really mess it up. If you are not appearing in public places you may not shave that often. I got plenty of clothes for work. Realized after washing and ironing everything I have at once.  You need not hand pick your grocery, ordering online grocery is NOT bad at all. You have more than enough vacation days at office. No

knowledge should be free

In my personal opinion Knowledge should be free. eBooks published should be free after 3 years for libraries. Should be available freely in public library apps like Libby and if they are physical all libraries should be able to buy at minimal cost 2 copies. Internet should be free not only in libraries but in schools, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, public parks and establishments. I agree with subscription apps for music, videos and movies. On the other hand two copies of all eBooks should be available in Libby app in all public library subscriptions. At the end of the day all a learner need to possess is a device for him to access the knowledge at his finger tips. This will be an investment in the society and raises the quality of living. Patents in medical field expires after 20 years. It takes around 8 years to get approval from FDA. After 20 years generic should be available. Since it is most complicated medical field, I can understand exclusivity for 12 years at the least.

Yogi, Tapasvi, Jnani and Karmi - Stages of dedication to your cause

तपस्विभ्योऽधिकोयोगी ज्ञानिभ्योऽपिमतोऽधिक:| कर्मिभ्यश्चाधिकोयोगी तस्माद्योगीभवार्जुन|| 6-46|| tapasvibhyo ’dhiko yogī jñānibhyo ’pi mato ’dhikaḥ karmibhyaśh chādhiko yogī tasmād yogī bhavārjuna A yogi is superior to the  tapasvī  (ascetic), superior to the  jñānī  (a person of learning), and even superior to the  karmī  (ritualistic performer). Therefore, O Arjun, strive to be a yogi. This is my own interpretation. There are 4 levels here.  Karmi: The one who does the work with the provided instructions Jnani: He is the seeker of the knowledge, curious to learn. Tapasvi: He has knowledge and vision. Can foresee cause and effect Yogi: The 4th and final stage, where you don't care about the results and keep doing what you love doing.  All humans should strive to be  Yogi's.
