Few Quotes from the book Talent code

I just finished reading book "Talent code" by Daniel Coyle. Very good book indeed, lots of interesting points and thoughts.



  • Men did not differ much in intellect, only in zeal and hard work. This is interesting thought, we attribute a lot to luck than hard work.
  • Brazil Fusbol: In this particular example author gives lot of credit for Brazil football team success to Fusbol practice they do at young age.  It is played in Brazil, in small indoor grounds with people in close proximity. When these people are spread over bigger soccer field, the tight passes they make accurately , makes all the difference.
  • Flight simulator: Before flight simulator was invented, there were lot of flight accidents. As the pilot brain is NOT trained on the edge, it is directly on to driving seat or theory class. It made huge difference in adopting to situations and forming mind patterns and accurate reactions.
  • Our brain is bundle of 100 billion wires called neurons. The connection of circuits will provide us with a skill. The more and more we train the connection of circuit is strengthened by myelin.
  • Your brain has so many connections and possibilities, gene can't code the neurons. That's why talent is NOT born, it is made.
  • Practice makes myelin, that insulates neuron circuit , that makes you perfect.
  • Once a skill circuit is insulated, it wont un-insulate unless disease or old age hits. Thats why old habits die hard.
  • You need passion and protection,  not permission. 
  • Excellence is a habit. 
  • Try again, fail again and fail better. I love this quote, because there is no success in this sentence and it is not destination, its just a journey.
  • Your unconscious mind can process 11 million pieces of information while your conscious mind can only process 40. That's why they call it muscle memory.
  • Education is not filling of a pail,  it's lighting of a fire. That enthusiasm is carried over life to get more knowledge.
  • A teacher is the one who makes himself progressively unnecessary. 
  • In Finland teachers are paid equally to doctors and lawyers.
  • COVID is the best CTO, accelerated digital adoption unlike anything.
