I know i picked a hot topic again!!!! aka Social Networking......
When i am doing Orkut i wondered how many such sites are there and how it is taking effect globally, so my investigation landed into an article on social networking.....
Find my observations.
Social Networking is web based community of people with similar interests. Some of the famous social networkig groups are orkut, Youtube (sharing video), Linked In, Face book, Myspace etc.,

It is considered as best innovation after email.
Social networking sites are opening gates for one another. (i.e if you have Face book you can link to your orkut account in the near future.....)

Advertisements industry is betting big on Social networking.
Myspace got $700 - $800 million in advertisement in 07-08.
Face book $300 - $350 million, it is 70 million member strong.
Linked In, 21 million members and is adding 1.2 million per month.
By the end of 2010, Social Networking will host some 4 million networks, with tens of millions of members, serving up billions of page views daily.
Social networking is boosting company profits because of relationship bonding within employees and their contacts in other companies.
Linked In started company group service, which connects all the employees of company. Around 1000 companies registered for it.
This industry has a consistent 47% growth Year On Year.

Identity theft is the major problem
spam is the second major problem
using Social Networking for defaming / abusing people is the third biggest problem!!!
whatever the problems may be, Netizens are enjoying it so do the advertisers and companies minting profit out of it ......
