What If COVID19 hit 10 years ago ?

Here we are exploring a scenario, what if COVID hit the world 10 year before i.e around 2009 ?
Around 2009, we are in deep recession or trying just to come out of recession. World is in negative GDP growth, unemployment rate was around 10%. In 2019 the unemployment rate is 3.6%. Financially all the countries are in dire situations and it would have been catastrophic event for the entire world. Financially, health care wise, technology wise we can neither deal with back to back blows nor well equipped with the technology.
As COVID hit in 2019 and humans are well prepared with eCommerce NOW than any time in the history. they are used to ordering online and picking up at store and for delivery. Companies have this kind of systems/sites/infrastructure in place, which is saving people from stepping out of the car in these situations. This is in very early stages during 2009 and online grocery was a thought at that time. It will be very difficult for people to get groceries at home in 2009 with this kind of situation.
Cloud wise, SaaS was a $4Billion market in 2009 and $100 billion market now in 2019. Lot of companies adopted to cloud wave. Recently Microsoft Azure has seen 779% up scaling in some of the COVID areas due to change in customer behavior and usage. In 2009 We had lot of retailers and healthcare still dependent on Data centers and those can NOT scale to this kind of demand, which would have added to the panic. Imagine a day without Zoom, Office 365, Facetime, Tele medicine. Some of the retailers are seeing multiple times the holiday traffic due to COVID2019.
Trade wise US companies foreign earnings were less than $500 billion in 2009 and now they are earning around 2.6 trillion. So we have more dependency on imports and exports now. So we have more exposure in 2019. We have more products single sourced in asian countries for US Consumables today when compared to past. This is definitely going to change in future with the lessons learned, geo-sourcing is more important, we all realized that fact.
On the other side of the coin, Around 2009 we have 479 million air travelers, now we have around 723 million travelers. More travelers means more spread, that means spread would have been 66% less in 2009. World population was 6.8 Billion at that time and now it is 7.7 billion.
Weighing in pros and cons, it was never a good time to hit the COVID but if given no choice 2019 would have been better time for COVID than 2009 for sure. Blessing in disguise.
