Foreign Worker

A foreign worker is a person who works in a country other than the one of which he or she is a citizen.

All developed countries employees facing tough competition from foreign workers. US is major among them.

Recent Durbin-Grassley bill gives protection to US workers from H1 Migrant workers. Key factors in the bill are as follows:

The Durbin-Grassley bill would prohibit companies from hiring H-1B employees if they employ more than 50 people and more than 50% of their employees are H-1B visa holders.

The Durbin-Grassley bill would double penalties for employers who violate H-1B program requirements.

The Durbin-Grassley bill would establish a process for DOL to investigate, audit and penalize L-1 employers.

Here is the statement from Durbin, "Our immigration policy should seek to complement our U.S. workforce, not replace it".

H1 or L1 visas program is working as below currently:

Boon to US based companies, as things can be done at a better rate with same or more quality and flexibility at work.

Bane to some of US workers, as they might be replaced with foreign workers.

Multiplying financial and career opportunities for Indian employees.

Opportunity for Indian firms to get more money from client and pay less to employees.

Any way, this is what history has to say about Foreign workers growing strength in US:
1% of US population is from India. The median income of Indian American's is $60K. As per Merrill Lynch study there are 200K Indian Millionaires in America. Indians own 50% of all Economy hotels and 35% of hotels in US. 15.5% of start up companies in silicon valley started by Indian origins. In 2002, 223K Asian Indian firms are there generating $88 billion revenue.
